Successful in bringing up Waterhouse's second straight victory in the feature event, the son of Al Maher showed a great willingness to win when denying hot favouriteBrazen Beau .
Tracking race leader Time For War throughout Almalad hung out badly rounding the turn for home, opening up a dream passage for Brazen Beau, however once headed on the inside Almalad fought back powerfully, with Waterhouse again denying Waller victory for the second year running.
Admitting Almalad did a bit wrong, Berry still remained quite critical of his own ride.
"I probably didn't give him the best of rides, he come out of the gates quite well and showed good pace early, " Berry said
I come back to sit of Time For War which I probably should have just taken him to the front because as I was grabbing him he kind of wanted to get off the track a little bit.
Proving the third victory of day for Gai Waterhouse, Berry was completely full of praise for both the horse and trainer.
"He's just a class above these," Berry said.
"When Nash [Rawiller] came up to me on Brazen Beau I still hadn't moved on my bloke.
"Mark Newman and I have had a rap on this bloke for quite some time now and it's just so good to get another Group 1 win for Gai [Waterhouse].
"I can't thank her enough for bringing me back, I've just had the best weekend, I went and saw Mum and Dad last night, it was hard to leave them this morning but that win was for them."
In what proved his 14th Group 1 career victory, Berry was simply over the moon following the event.
"It doesn't matter how many you win [Group Ones] it doesn't get any better, it's an addictive drug that I can't get enough of and I'll be a very happy man flying back tonight," Berry said.
