Keith's Legacy (R1 No. 3) - would be the bet of the year if only we could guarantee a wet track. One must be mindful of Keith's Legacy's record on good tracks as 12s 0-4-0 against his slow track C.V of 5s 4w and 2 from 5 on heavy. On the positive side, he is a genuine Saturday class horse who has performed well fresh in the past and we dare anyone to find fault with his 3rd to Albrecht and subsequent big winner Entirely Platinum at HQ on Feb 11. The tempo aspect is a major factor playing to the David Vandyke galloper's strengths if they all race to their pattern.
Koroibete (R6 No. 6) - is the early favourite to win the Derby and makes his return to racing in the same race as Triple Crown winner It's A Dundeel did 12 months ago. Okay, he's no It's A Dundeel but this field is nowhere near as strong as it was then of course. Gerald Ryan's near black galloper has a fabulous record of 6s 3-1-2 and is arguably unlucky not to have won both first-up/debut runs. Granted he has a long and ambitious campaign ahead of him timed to peak on Derby day but he is a quality horse ideally suited to 1400m first-up and we have taken close note of his Feb 18 trial, it was a pearler. Is in desperate need of a genuine tempo.
Hue And Cry (Bunbury R3 No.5) from Bunbury 13/2, we said: ''a bit slow to get going and was pushed up to improve and quickly made it to about sixth. Hemmed between horses coming to the turn and went back towards the inside to run on. Finished the race off well and was only beaten narrowly so the start was costly. First-up and can improve as well.''
- extra 200m looks in his favour and he should go very close.
Pago Rock (Flemington R8 No. 1) - This Hayes trained gelding resumed here when a cracking 4th in the Lightning recently and despite conceding weight all round should prove very hard to beat.
Junoob (Rosehill R5 No. 6) - this import has hit his straps in no uncertain terms winning his last two starts in grand style and looks impossible to go past despite the short quote.
Balbowa (Ascot R8 No. 12) - has impressed in his two runs since a spell and despite this being a harder race does get the weight relief to compensate for that and appeals here.
RANDWICK: Ecuador (Rosehill R1 No. 2) - Tuesday, course proper, 1400m in1:33, last 600m in 36.1, final 200m in 11.1
ROSEHILL: Junoob (Rosehill R5 No. 6) - Tuesday, 1000m in 1:10, last 600m in 39.95, last 200m in 12.50.
BROADMEADOW: Dream Choice (Rosehill R2 No. 2) - course proper, 18m out, going good, 800m in 53.75, last 600m in 37.70.
CAULFIELD: Strawberry Boy (Flemington R6 No. 4) - Tuesday, course proper, 11m out, going good, 1000m (with Quick Snitzel) in 1:09.40, last 600m in 37.90.
FLEMINGTON: Eurozone (Flemington R7 No. 3) - Thursday, inside grass, 6m out, going good, 1400m in 1:43.76, last 600m in 27.44.
