De Nederlanden (Werribee R5 No.2) from Echuca 4/5, we said: ''away okay and was on the pace and in a battle for the early lead before taking a sit third on the fence. Looked to be going well into the straight but the leader was gone in front of him and he lost all momentum when checking. Didn't get clear until well inside the 200m. Second-up here and should have finished a lot closer.''
- unlucky last time and gets his chance to atone.

Holder Sunset (Scone R2 No.14) - this mare returned in good order at her first run for the new stable when going down narrowly, should be fitter for that run and take some running down here. Mighty Like (Caulfield R3 No.6) - this gelding has been in cracking form this preparation and should get the perfect run behind the expected warm tempo here, looks very hard to beat again. Magnifisio (Belmont R7 No.11) - this mare looked good winning at her first run back from a spell and despite this being harder looks hard to beat again. Meursault (Hawkesbury R2 No. 6) - is a regally bred son of Medaglia D'Oro out of the G1 winner Star Shiraz. He has trialled quite well indeed on four occasions dating back to November last year. Snowden whacked a set of blinkers on the colt at his last heat and it had the desired effect. This handsome bay/brown 2YO really attacked the line once Kerin McEvoy got a little bit busy on him. He beat Mr Lebrock who came out and ran especially well at his debut behind Idyllic Scenery at C'bury.
The Ninth Immortal (Morphettville R3 No. 5) - from 'BALAKLAVA (SA) 16/4 - good 3 The Ninth Immortal (4th 1050m 2yo Mdn): away okay and beaten a little for early speed. Settled midfield and was being pushed along before the turn. Tightened up just inside the 400m and had to check and go back to the inside. Warming up again but was crowded on the rail over the last 50m or so. Finished less than a length from the winner in an unlucky debut.
- Stepping up in class to a stakes race but can measure up RANDWICK: Ryker (Hawkesbury R7 No. 9) - Tuesday, dirt, 1400m in 1:35.4, last 600m in 36, final 200m in 11.3.
ROSEHILL: Leebaz (Hawkesbury R6 No. 4) - Thursday, inside grass, going good, 6m out, 1000m in 1:11.41, last 600m in 38.51, final 200m in 12.48. CAULFIELD: Campanology (R7 No. 3 Trainer C J Waller) - has now had three runs in Australia and this is his race. Much improved effort secondup to finish fifth here over 1400m behind Tried And Tired, then got a long way out of his ground but made up many lengths in the run home to be beaten just two and a half lengths by roughie Shadow Ninja over 1300m. Steps up to the mile tomorrow and is incredible value at $9.
GOLD COAST: Monbazillac (R1 No. 10 Trainer P G Moody) - is a Sydney sprinter having his first run up here fresh from a break and looks the bet of the day. Didn't break through last prep but ran a string of minor placings behind some handy types including a third to Dream Choice and Shelford over 1200m at Randwick two runs back. Should be too good for these on the limit weight from the perfect draw and with C Munce on board. The $4.00 looks very generous. MORPHETTVILLE: Royal Standing (R3 No. 2 Trainer Brent Stanley) - Damien Oliver could probably tell you how unlucky this horse was not to have won the Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington, the horse got caught up in traffic in the jam packed capacity field but flew late to finish 5th btn 0.7-lens in a very busy finish. It was a great run. Prior to that the son of Stratum was first-up when 5.1-lens 5th of 8 in the G3 Breeder's Stakes behind London Lolly and wait for it...Go Indy Go. Trace back to his only other run and you'll see that he was 4th to Boomwaa in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate. |
